Weird News Wednesday: Nobel Prize in Physics Presentation Mentions “Big Bang Theory”

During the Tuesday announcement for the Nobel Prize in Physics, the television sitcom Big Bang Theory was mentioned unexpectedly, according to the Associated Press. Nobel Academy member Ulf Danielsson quoted the first line from the show’s opening theme song. Goran Hansson, secretary general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, said the TV show–which ran for 12 seasons–brought the “world of science to laptops and living rooms around the world.” He called it a “fantastic achievement.” The finale of the show featured two of the characters winning the Nobel in Physics. “I hope Sheldon and Amy aren’t too disappointed today,” said Hansson.
