On Wednesday, the New York Yankees traded for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. If you’re wondering how an NFL star ends up getting dealt to an MLB franchise, it’s because Wilson’s an accomplished baseball player whose rights were previously owned by the Texas Rangers. Wilson told the Rangers he wanted to try and play for the Yankees someday, so a trade was worked out. As ESPN notes, Wilson played two seasons in the Colorado Rockies’ minor league system as a second baseman prior to starting his NFL career. A .229 hitter, he has no immediate plans to play two sports at once, a la Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson.
