Tale of the Tape: “Craving You” vs. “Messin’ with Jesus”

Today we continue with the final match up in the first round of the Song of the Year tournament! The last 2 match ups featured in “Tale of the Tape” ended up being lopsided upsets with Chris Stapleton crushing Sam Hunt, and Montgomery Gentry blowing out Brothers Osborne! Will the upset trend continue? We’ll find out with your votes at noon, but for now let’s go to the numbers to see how this should play out.

Froggy Field Party alum Chris Janson and Tim McGraw teamed up to make “Messin’ with Jesus” which is another difficult one to figure out.  This song is not an official release from Chris Janson or Tim McGraw, so there aren’t any real numbers to look at.  It’s a cut from Janson’s 2015 album “Buy Me a Boat” written by Chris Janson, Kelly Roland, and Pavel Dovgalyuk.  The best thing we really have to look at are the album sales for this one, and it ended up at 117,000 units sold.  This song has had a fairly successful run on the Froggy 5@5 this year though, so it could pull off another upset!

Thomas Rhett and Maren Morris got together this year on “Craving You” which was released in April.  This actually was almost not a duet, as Rhett originally thought it wouldn’t make much sense with an additional voice, however he changed his mind when he heard the dynamic that Maren added to the song.  This was a hit making it to #3 on the Billboard Hot Country chart, and #1 on the Country Airplay chart.  This is Rhett’s 8th #1, and Maren’s 1st.  The single sold 384,000 units.

Who will move on to face Montgomery Gentry in round 2? That’s up to your vote! Voting opens at noon today and continues until 4! Vote on our facebook page, or call 502-875-4040!
