Preventing Pathways to Addiction with Music

November 1 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Preventing Pathways to Addiction: Therapeutic Beat Making & Trauma
Dr. Elliot Gann, Psy. D., Today’s Future Sound Executive Director

*The same workshop will be offered both nights. You have 2 opportunities to participate: Oct. 30 OR Nov. 1.*

This free workshop is for anyone who is interested in innovative ways our communities can address addiction and prevention. Dr. Gann will discuss how childhood trauma affects the brain and potential social outcomes, and how the arts and music addresses trauma as a culturally responsive intervention that can be a first tier step to prevent pathways to addiction, and even help those individuals who are addicted in their recovery process. Dr. Gann pioneered the Therapeutic Beat Making Model that is now serving groups in schools, as well as juvenile justice and mental health settings.

Dr. Gann is in Frankfort to launch HeartBEATS, an innovative and trauma-informed beat making/hip hop youth development and substance abuse prevention program for middle and high school students at The Kings Center.
